To celebrate Oakland’s First Friday tonight, folks involved with The Hive — a mixed-use development at 2335 Broadway whose tenants include Numi Tea, Firebrand Artisan Breads, Drake’s Brewery, Truve Fitness, Impact Hub Oakland, People’s Barber & Shop and soon-to-open Calavera restaurant — are hosting a block party just off Broadway.
More than two years in the making, Drake’s Dealership has finally arrived. The 350-seat, 10,000-square-feet behemoth, located in The Hive, the mixed-use development at 23rd and Broadway in Oakland (also home to the newly-opened Calavera, Firebrand Artisan Breads and Numi Organic Tea), is officially open to the public as of today.
The restaurant, which opened to the public over the weekend, is a labor of love from partners Chris Pastena (Lungomare), and Jessica Sackler (Coqueta, Oyamel) and Miguel Iglesias (Coqueta, Oyamel), located in new mixed-use development The Hive.
Located in The Hive, an urban mall and community-gathering place, Calavera has a great bar offering half a dozen imaginative margaritas, including my favorite, the sweetly complex agua de sandia (watermelon water), and the chillingly smoky and chile-spiked Mezcalara.
In September Keba Konte’s latest venture, Red Bay Coffee, will open its first brick and mortar location at The Hive. The downtown Oakland coffee bar marks the extension of Konte’s Fruitvale home roastery.
