Hacking the Economy: The Current Economic System and The Next

What is the economy for? Why are we working harder than ever and yet feel less and less financially and economically secure? Why is the middle class disappearing? Why are the benefits of economic growth going only to a progressively smaller percentage of the population? How can we move beyond growth and meet everybody’s basic needs in society? How can the economy be transformed to allow for a more compassionate and just society?

We will look at the essential features of the current system that makes it unstable and destructive of communities and ecosystems. We will then look at the systemic features of a new economic system that would be compatible with long term health of ecosystems and communities. Finally, we will explore the path from the current system to one that democratizes and localizes economic activity and anchors wealth and capital formation in the community.
